Pro-natural concepts of architecture – origins and perspectivesThe series of conferences titled NATURE – ARCHITECTURE – CULTURE refers to the universal essence of architectural creation by providing humans with optimal living conditions. The ideal home, the ideal habitat, the ideal city – these are the visions that guide actions which subordinate the main material resources and the intellectual, creative, and technical potential of individuals and societies. The history of architecture and urban planning is a continuum of the realization of the concept of ideal cities.

design+art+science – conference on the importance of visual arts in urban space, presenting reflections on the intersection of architectural design in integration with fine arts and the role of this synergy for shaping contemporary public spaces and architectural interiors. The new edition of the conference will focus on the contexts of meaning and narrative in design, fine and visual arts, as well as the workshop of the architect and artist. Special attention will be paid to the individualized sensory perception of a design work. Both architecture and art, instead of prompting the viewer to only visually perceive the work, are increasingly engaging other senses such as touch, hearing, smell and taste to create a comprehensive and sensory experience. Nowadays, the importance of holistic, multi-sensory perception of space playing an important role is emphasized as it affects our experience and interaction with the environment. The understanding of the environment is based on sensory impressions, which are then processed by the cognitive system, which is influenced by genetically determined individual characteristics and the different life experiences of each person. Questions arise – how to create works of art and architecture to make them understandable and acceptable to the audience? how to diversify solutions so that each viewer can feel the comfort of perception of the work or the environment? what means of expression to use to reach the widest possible audience, to provide a sense of security, stability?

Region, Town, and Country, the conference dealing mainly with issues of contemporary urban planning; so far the topics covered have been new concepts for residential areas, work spaces and concepts for public spaces, the development of smart cities, and spatial planning strategies. Currently, the main topic will be issues concerning the fight against climate change, in the edition entitled: Rain on concrete. Water retention in public spaces. The session will address issues related to natural methods of retaining and managing rainwater in different types of public spaces.

Interdisciplinary Research in Architecture (BIWA – Smart Architecture) – a scientific conference dedicated to interdisciplinary research within the field of architecture and urban planning. The event focuses on presenting research results that incorporate perspectives from other scientific fields and disciplines, such as sociology, ergonomics, environmental psychology, information technology, and others. The theme of this edition of the BIWA Conference, titled “Scientific Research in the Discipline of Architecture and Urban Planning in the Context of Social Change, Environmental and Climate Threats, and the Development of New Technologies,” will address contemporary phenomena and challenges facing architecture, including climate change, new social needs within the built environment, environmental protection, and modern energy systems based on renewable energy sources.

The archiDREAM Silesia 2026 Multiconference is an international event dedicated to scientific discussion on key aspects of contemporary architecture and urban development, taking into account perspectives from other disciplines that help address current spatial challenges (such as fine arts, spatial management, environmental psychology, ergonomics, and sociology).Previous editions of the event took place in 2019, 2022, and 2025 in Gliwice, bringing together a wide international community of participants. The outcomes of these conferences have been published in scientific monographs by the Silesian University of Technology

The conference will analyse the role of the architect and the impact of the architectural design process on the transformation of the built environment – the creation of contemporary architectural and urban planning solutions in the context of the phenomenon of globalisation and the climate crisis, the development of new technologies, the emergence of new social situations and needs, and culture and natural heritage at the local level. Issues concerning innovative methods of transforming the architectural message, the search for inspiration to show the consequences of globalisation and new technologies in the transformation of architectural space will not be overlooked.

Innovative Ideas in Architecture

The second half of the twentieth century exists between history and the present. This state of peculiar suspension causes that we do not always know how to study, evaluate and protect it. Therefore, often valuable and experimental objects or urban layouts of the Modernist period deteriorate, are transformed or demolished and replaced by new buildings. This perceptible problem results in both irreversible loss of heritage and negates the principles of cultural continuity. The problem occurs both on a national, European and global scale, so cooperation and international exchange of experience is an excellent starting point for finding solutions. In April 2025 we held the first international conference at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology on the Heritage of Architecture of the second half of the 20th century. At that time we talked about the problems of its preservation in the face of contemporary challenges and about good practices. Contributions from participants from Italy, Portugal, Germany, Turkey, Lithuania and Poland gave our discussion a European dimension, confirming once again that heritage protection is a common problem.

The Architecture and Technology and Health Conference is a recurring event focusing on issues related to the health-promoting potential of contemporary architecture and urban planning. The next edition, ATZ 2026, will be dedicated to topics connecting architecture, environmental psychology, and environmental design, in order to understand the principles of human behavior and social interaction in the context of human health and well-being within the built environment. The current development of neuroarchitecture, aimed at improving design practices in workspaces, residential settings, and educational environments, is intended to support human well-being and contribute to the enhancement of both physical and mental health. At the same time, advances in neuroscience and the use of empirical research methods are significantly expanding the boundaries of traditional architectural studies and allow for a deeper investigation into the behaviors and preferences of specific user groups.
