Heritage of architecture of the second half of the 20th century – research and preservation

The theme of the session will concern the heritage of architecture of the second half of the 20th century in Europe in the context of research and preservation efforts.
The session will present the issues in a European perspective, thanks to the participation of guests from Portugal, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, Turkey and Poland.

The logic of locality in the age of globalization

Identification of key phenomena related to globalization and their significance in shaping architectural solutions on a local scale. Summary of research conducted at the RAr-2 department at the Silesian University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture – discussion of threats and local opportunities for architectural development in the context of the influence of new paradigms: mobility (redefinition of transportation and its associated socio-cultural phenomena) and the circular economy.

Interdisciplinary research in urban planning – examples of realised projects
Leader: Ph.D., DSc., Eng. Arch. Michał Stangel, Prof. SUT
The topic will address issues of sustainable mobility as well as the challenges of sustainable development and energy-climate transformation. Examples of completed interdisciplinary research involving staff from the Department of Urbanism and Spatial Planning at the Silesian University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture will be presented.
Each of the conferences is a one-day hybrid meeting and presentation by guest (invited) speakers and a joint discussion. The venue is the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, although on-line participation is also possible.
Participation in the conference is free of charge; the organisers do not cover travel and accommodation costs.
In addition, a pro-conference publication is planned in journals, a list of which will be sent out soon. We will provide also the Book of Abstracts with short biograms of invited guests and abstracts of their presentations.
